Anders F. Holmgren

Overview

Anders Holmgren's practice includes commercial litigation, casualty and personal injury, and civil appeals. He has successfully represented his clients' interests at all levels of Louisiana's court system.

He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with distinction, in 2006, and earned his law degree magna cum laude from Tulane Law School in 2012. While at Tulane, he concentrated his studies in Louisiana's civil law, earning a Civil Law certificate. He served as a managing editor of the Tulane Law Review and was a student-attorney with the Tulane Civil Litigation Clinic. He also volunteered at the Pro Bono Project, where he was named the 2011 Pro Bono Law Student of the Year.

He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America. He serves as an Adjunct Professor at Tulane Law School, where he teaches Civil Law Procedure.

Professional Experience

  • United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals (2025). Representing a church damaged by a hurricane, successfully defended a multimillion-dollar damages judgment.
  • Louisiana Supreme Court (2025). Representing a Fortune 500 company in a contract dispute, obtained discretionary review and prevailed in reducing a damages award by over 50%, resulting in an $80 million savings for the client.
  • Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal (2024). Representing a utility company, successfully defended on appeal a trial court judgment that found the company free of fault.
  • Louisiana Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal (2024). Representing a local business on appeal, secured the enforcement of a $20,000 stipulated-damages clause and the reversal of a $5.2 million verdict for breach of contract.
  • Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal (2024). Representing an online travel company, successfully defended a trial court judgment finding that state and local sales tax laws did not apply to the client's business.
  • U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals (2023). Representing the plaintiffs in a precedent-setting appeal, secured the reversal of a judgment that expansively interpreted the preemptive scope of the LHWCA.
  • Representing a worker injured in a major refinery explosion. Enrolled on appeal and successfully convinced the Louisiana First Circuit to reverse a district court judgment that had dismissed the worker's case against a valve manufacturer and valve distributor.
  • Representing the widow of a nationally acclaimed artist in intellectual property litigation. Successfully defended a federal lawsuit that sought to divest her of community property rights in works of art created during the marriage.
  • Representing an oil company in a dispute with a contractor following an oil spill in Bayou Sorrel. Successfully prosecuted the company's claims through trial, winning a substantial judgment that led to a favorable settlement.
  • Representing a public university in a suit brought by a former student. Obtained dismissal of the lawsuit and successfully defended that judgment in the student's appeal to the U.S. Fifth Circuit.
  • Representing a loan company in a dispute with a borrower. Successfully prosecuted suit through trial in state court, winning judgment for the full amount due.
